Evil Eye Bead Sizes: Which Size Sells Best

Evil eye bead sizes run from 2.5 cm to 25 cm and each range sells to a different customer. Here is what each size is used for, which ones turn over fastest in a shop, and how to build a starter mix that does not tie up your cash.

The most common mistake a new buyer makes is ordering the size they personally find attractive. Big beads photograph beautifully. They also sit on the shelf. Understanding what each size range is actually bought for will do more for your margin than negotiating a better unit price.

We produce thirteen sizes, from 2.5 cm to 25 cm. They divide into three commercial groups.

Small: 2.5 – 5.5 cm

This is the volume range. Small beads are the raw material for keychains, bracelets, earrings, bag charms and the kind of low-price impulse item that sits next to a till. They are light, which keeps your freight cost per unit very low, and cheap enough that a customer buys three without thinking.

If you run a souvenir shop, a gift shop or an online store, this is where most of your turnover will come from. It is also the safest range to start with: if a colour does not sell, you have not tied up much money.

Medium: 7.5 – 13.5 cm

Medium sizes are hung, not worn. They sell as wall decorations, door pieces and housewarming gifts. The buyer is usually purchasing for a specific place in their home, which means they spend longer choosing and are less price-sensitive than the impulse buyer.

This range works well in home and decoration stores, and it is the size most often bought as a gift for a new business or a new house. Demand is steady all year rather than seasonal.

Large: 15 – 25 cm

Large pieces are display items. They work in a shop window, on a feature wall, in a hotel lobby or a restaurant entrance. You will sell fewer of them, but the unit margin is the highest in the range and one in a window pulls customers towards the smaller items.

Be realistic about volume here. Large pieces are bulky, which raises shipping cost per unit, and they turn over slowly. Two or three in a first order is usually enough to see whether your customers respond.

Perforated or not

Every size can be produced with or without a hole. Perforated beads are for anything that gets threaded — jewellery, keychains, strings of beads. Non-perforated pieces are finished items, usually with a cord or a magnet already attached.

This is worth deciding before you order, because it is a production choice, not something that can be changed afterwards. If you make your own jewellery, order perforated. If you resell finished pieces, order non-perforated with the cord or magnet you want.

A sensible starter mix

For a first order of 500 pieces, a mix weighted heavily towards the small range usually works best: roughly 60% small sizes across two or three colours, 30% medium, and 10% large. That gives you something at every price point in your shop, tells you which colours your customers actually pick, and keeps both your cash and your freight bill under control.

After one selling season you will know your own mix, and it will not look like anyone else's.

Ordering

Our minimum order is 500 pieces and it can be mixed freely across sizes, colours and models. Tell us the kind of shop you run and we will suggest a mix, or send us your own list and we will price it.
